The NHL Heritage Classic will be held on October 29, 2023 between the Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton.
Northern Alberta, Canada holds the second largest oil reserve in the world. S. Preston incorporated two hockey sticks into an illustration of an oil derrick in homage to the team namesake and main industry in Edmonton. The flare at the top is typical in the oil industry to burn off the excess gas in the line and is a small nod to their outdoor opponent, the Calgary Flames.
