Sample gates serve as an entrance into the oldest part of the current Bloomington campus, known as the Old Crescent. The gates were constructed in 1987 with funding provided by Edson Sample. Among the most widely photographed structures on campus, they are constructed of Indiana Limestone and are typically surrounded by tulips in the Spring.
